Sorry about your face

1 / 2 - Sorry about your face, 2009, c-prints collage, 30 x 21 cm

This project took off when I asked the photo shop owner I usually frequented, to buy some unwanted photos. He admitted that they stored lots of photos never retrieved by their owners.
The shop stores them away for five years. After that they are destroyed. He denied me the photos on grounds of privacy. But then he relented on one condition: faces in the shots had to be unrecognizable. So these never seen photos come to life again through my work. They are not the originals but, then again, it’s the only way for them to be seen by others.
Only as a collage can the photo reveal and tell at least part of its history.
